WHY I CREATED THIS PROGRAM

For years I have traveled on business and worked with business travelers to keep them healthy on the road.  Increasingly when I’ve mentioned my programs to friends and family, they are drawn specifically to my work around staying trim while dining out.  I shouldn’t blame them.  They see me flitting all over Europe and the US eating upwards of two meals a day in restaurants yet staying trim.  At the time of writing, I just spent a week in New York City, my favorite dining destination, where I indulged in French, Vietnamese, Italian, American and Chinese cuisines.  I came home one pound heavier.  That’s nothing and it was gone the next day.  Not long ago, I went on a one-week cruise and came back half a pound heavier. The average weight gain for cruise passengers is eight pounds per week!

Said family and friends also saw me when it just wasn’t so, before I figured out how to dine out and stay slim:  Back when I was making the worst menu choices, hitting the wine bottle because of my high stress level, and eating sugary foods like there was going to be a world shortage. I was pudgy, blotchy and exhausted. Hence their intrigue with what I was up to.

Some of these friends were serial careerists who couldn’t describe their apartments to me in any detail because they spent more time at the office or on the road, like me.  I’d visit them and there’d be nothing in the fridge, not even  condiments.  Then there were my friends who were starting families while maintaining their career fast tracks.  They’d make sure their offspring were eating as healthily as possible but once the kids were asleep, they’d order in for themselves and make horrible choices.

The final group was my friends, married or single, who simply didn’t have a mental connection with their kitchen.  They hated cooking, they viewed it as an utter waste of time, they didn’t want to have to clean up after, and making reservations was just easier.

The one thing each of these friends had in common was that they were unhappy with the side-effects of dining out.  They weren’t about to leap into the kitchen and have a total change of lifestyle, but they wanted to look and feel better.
